What is geothermal?
An EarthPoint geothermal system uses solar energy stored in the ground to heat and cool your home or building. Six feet below its surface, the earth's temperature remains a constant 55°F, which means that your yard holds a steady supply of energy—enough to heat and cool your home or buidling all year round.
There are 3 components to an EarthPoint system:
- The heat pump located in your home.
- Distribution system (standard ductwork) also located in your house or building.
- A series of flexible plastic pipes buried under your yard.
How does it work?
In the winter, a liquid solution is circulated through the ground pipes, absorbing heat from the ground and transferring it to the heat pump. The pump then circulates the heat throughout your home or building via the distribution system, which consists of standard ductwork and a radiator or in-floor radiant tubing system.
In the summer, the system reverses. Heat is taken from your home or building and transferred to the ground pipes. The earth absorbs the heat and the pipes return cooler fluid to the residence. The distribution system then circulates the cold air.
